I have lived in Vermont for 32 years. I was an Educator in the Springfield School System, currently retired, yet always teaching. Though my parents are native Vermonters, my father was in the Air Force so I was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming – also lived in Illinois and Texas.
I have 5 grown children and 13 grandchildren. My husband and I also have black labs. I teach school, love playing piano and the organ, quilting and scrapbooking when time allows. Love to read mysteries and historical fiction.
I am looking forward to working in the Chester Andover Elementary School.
I am excited to say that I am the Mental Health Clinician here at CAES. Although I have been a part of the CAES community for many years, the 2015 school year marks my first year as a member of the professional staff here. It feels as though it is exactly where I am intended to be! I love the creative learning that happens here, I love the kids, and I love working with the innovative and intelligent staff!
I am originally from Colorado, but I have lived everywhere and I am glad to call Vermont my home. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology. My early academic work focused on Elementary Education, Business and Child Development. I love to learn about the brain, things that are unexplained, and synchronicity. I have experience in using mindfulness and meditation to help people calm anxieties and reduce stress. I dream of someday opening a nature and wilderness-based wellness center to bring the outdoors "within" and help people heal with adventure and nature combined.
Here at CAES I will be providing counseling for children as well as facilitating some groups and other learning around mental health and wellbeing. This also is my third year coaching the 5th and 6th grade girls soccer team.
I love the ocean, art, LIVE music, my family, dancing, painting, reading, the outdoors, rollerblading, al things magical, camping, people and adventures! I can’t wait to see you! :)
Hi! My name is Laurie Birmingham and I am thrilled to be working at Chester Andover Elementary school after taking 10 years off to raise a family. Before children I earned a BS in Elementary Education from Oswego State. While teaching grades 5/6 in Grafton, Vermont I earned a Masters through the Vermont Mathematics Initiative at the University of Vermont. After completing VMI I knew I wanted to focus my energies on just teaching math.
At CAES I will be working as a math interventionist. My job is to provide Tier 2 instruction in the area of mathematics. This means I provide targeted intervention to students in addition to their regular math instruction. I pull small groups of students and work with them in my classroom out in the “White House”. I may also push into their classroom to help out as well. In addition to intervention groups I will be teaching Everyday Mathematics to a group of 3rd graders.
I am an animal rescue advocate and have rescued many dogs and cats by adding them to our family. I love traveling with Alan and exploring the USA! It's always nice to come home though, where my goats, chickens, dogs and cats are waiting for me on my little farm and now, especially coming home to teach right here in my home town!
